Without the efforts of these two amazing people, Jukoshin Ryu would not be in Canada. Their efforts have created the base from which we are now able to grow this amazing art in Canada!

Hata Moto / Kyoshi Gary Houldsworth, 6th Dan
(First Canadian Shihan for Jukoshin Ryu Jiu-jitsu)

Kyoshi Gary Holdsworth

Kyoshi Gary Houldsworth trained in the art of Jiu Jitsu for over 25 years and was a well-known senior grade in Ottawa.

He trained under the supervision of Soke Bryan Cheek for many years and was mainly responsible for the introduction of both the World Elite Black Belt Society WEBBS and Jukoshin Ryu Jiu Jitsu to Canada.

Kyoshi Houldsworth was the first WEBBS member in Canada and through his tireless work over some 7 years he was able to establish a foothold for our World organization, which is now growing rapidly.

Due to ill health Kyoshi Houldsworth become unable to train, but maintained a keen interest in the development of Jukoshin and WEBBS all around the world. As a close, and long standing friend of Soke Cheek, his advice was required and relied upon until his passing in 2017.

We thank Kyoshi Houldsworth for all of his past efforts in bringing the wonderful art of Jukoshin Ryu Jiu-jitsu and WEBBS to Canada.

Hata Moto / Shihan Mike Walker, 6th Dan
(Second Canadian Shihan for Jukoshin Ryu Jiu-jitsu)

Shihan Mike Walker

Shihan Mike began training in martial arts with Master Ray Bond in Ottawa until 1997. He then continued training under the supervision of Kyoshi Gary Houldsworth and achieved the kyu rank of blue belt in Can-Ryu Jiu-Jitsu in the year 2000.

After meeting Soke Bryan Cheek at the World Elite Black Belt Society (WEBBS) World Congress 2003 in Ottawa, he concentrated his training solely on the system of Jukoshin Ryu Jiu-Jitsu.

Shihan Mike fell in love with this system and decided to dedicate as much time as possible to learning this fascinating art. Shihan Mike has travelled to England on many occasions during the past 15 years to have intensive instruction under the expert tuition of Soke Bryan Cheek at the London Hombu dojo.

In 2006, at the WEBBS World Congress in Japan, he graded for his 1st Dan.
In 2013 Shihan Mike was graded to 4th Dan and the Title of Renshi.
In 2018 Shihan Mike was graded to the master level of 6th Dan and the Title of Shihan.

Shihan Mike was also directly responsible for organizing many with Jukoshin Ryu masters from around the world. These seminars included Soke Bryan Cheek (UK), Hanshi Eduardo Sanchez (Spain/Mexico), Shihan Monica Couto (Portugal), and Shihan Michael Legg (UK). He also was the driving force in bringing the WEBBS Would Congress 2019 to Ottawa.

Shihan Mike became close personal friends with Soke Bryan Cheek and many within the Jukoshin family. He continued to train in the art he loved until his passing in 2019.
